My reflection and thoughts

The following 'article' shares my reflection and thoughts behind the proposed extension of St Luke’s church.

A short visit to the church in Goostrey, prompted by the Bishop of Chester, was a revelation to me and came at the right time in my life. I stood at the front of the church and was struck by the shape and space. Here was a sacred place I felt at home immediately.  Prayer, a subsequent interview, and faith brought me to this delightful Cheshire village in March 2018. The people of St Luke's welcomed me warmly into their lives.
The church has always been special particularly the ambience within this historic building. It is primarily a place of worship, a place of gathering for memorable occasions, and for fellowship as well as prayer. It wraps itself around us not only together but as individuals, solace being sought in time of need.
The people of St Luke's are faithful, committed and loving people endeavouring to live out their faith, to welcome people into our midst as well as reach out to others within the village. They have coped with their facilities for many years making the most of the limitations as they offered hospitality to others. Their patience and resilience, their vision and hope have been to make improved facilities more accessible, welcoming, sustainable and hospitable so that all may feel welcomed and be encouraged to meet together, to spend time together, that faith may be shared with loving socialising and listening, with deep and sensitive caring. Without adequate kitchen facilities, refreshments and utensils have been carried up and down the path before and after events and prior to all services, without complaint but certainly under pressure. Adequate disabled facilities for the elderly and provision for babies and children is needful not only for certain aspects of church life but for the wholeness of village life, regardless of age or disposition.
We believe the Christian message of belonging and valuing is for all, and St Luke's wishes to extend that sense of love and acceptance, warmth and welcome.  I was met with a church family who have patiently sown the seed of faith throughout years, who have waited for over thirty years for improved facilities to enhance the warmth that already exists; a people who have been willing to work to see their vision realised.

We continue to pray, to work and to move forward with the vision and the passion which fuels it, in order to see the building improved and enhanced for future use.
